Back in July I was having a PM discussion with mp5stab, hereinafter known as Em, and she said

I think it’s about time to start a new themed thread, agony and obscenity are only part of a more complete whole. Plus, I like to gather all of my inspirational stuff in neat little categories as well.

Raising the Cross - Which Way?

I've always wondered which method is preferred? Laying down the entire cross, and then nailing the wrists and feet before the cross and condemned are pushed upwards? Or do others prefer nailing the wrists first, and then hoisting up the crossbeam while the condemned hangs?

I've attached two renders, and my preferred method is obvious, though I'm curious what others think.

I'm probably in the minority here in that I prefer the scourging part of the crucifixion to the actual hanging from the cross (something that many noted about my story The Scapegoat - I've reattached it in case anybody wants to see it without having to trawl through a search), but I'm guessing most of us enjoy whipping. So, I was wondering, what are our favourite depictions of flogging either in film, pictures or writing?

Crucifixion isn't my main thing, but it is one of my oldest fascinations (single-digit childhood, as memory serves), and I do make crux scenes from time to time. In recent months this forum has reinvigorated the sub-genre for me creatively, and I find myself once again piecing together random props in pursuit of makeshift crosses and nails.
